Being a pack rat finally paid off!!

I have a tendency to hold on to things for too long. I have definitely come a long way in this area. But I can't stand to see something wasted! Well, with 4 children in the house, three of them being boys, there are bound to be many knees of jeans worn out! But...throw them away! I don't think so! So for a couple of years, some of these jeans have been just sitting in the closet. Some of them are "newly" worn out. Does that even make sense? Hopefully you get the idea. But I only got my sewing machine about 2 months ago. So holding on to all those jeans finally paid off. I cut the jeans off where the hole was. Not a lot of measuring and figuring. I just cut them right at the hole. Then I slid those babies in the sewing machine...and wah lah! Shorts! I have hemmed a total of 7 pairs of shorts (one is not pictured). The way I see it, my machine nearly paid for itself! What a savings! That's 7 less pairs of shorts I have to buy this summer!!

Memorial Day Weekend

What a great weekend we have had! This is the first 3 day weekend (holiday), in a while, that Brian and I have both been off work. Either I have had to work the holiday or Brian didn't take the day off. So it was so nice to spend the weekend together.

Friday night, we got together with friends from church and practiced some new music. That was alot of fun! On Saturday we got several things around the house accomplished. On Sunday, after church, we spent the afternoon with Tanya and Gabe. We always enjoy their company, and they are really good cooks. After dinner we had a great time singing and playing instruments!

Monday morning, Lindsey, Ben and I went and picked more strawberries. I'm so glad we were able to get more before the season ended. The berries definitely weren't as plentiful as last time we picked. But I was able to make 14 more jars of jam and 10 bowls of freezer jam. We have really enjoyed sharing our jam, so I was thrilled to make more.

After more working around the house, we took a break and went to the pool. This was opening weekend and the kids couldn't wait another minute. But the water was freezing cold!!! We were only there about an hour. I can't believe it is already summer again! It was really neat to be able to sit outside the pool for a bit this year and watch the kids swim. Up until now, I have had to be in the water with the kids, so I feel like we turned a big corner! After the pool, we came home for dinner and finished it off with some ice cream cones outside! Outside is the best place for ice cream cones. I wish I could get a really good picture of the ice cream dripping down Drew's elbow. He enjoyed it tremendously! As a matter of fact, everyone did! Even Nestle! She started licking all the ice cream that had dripped on Drew's clothes! It was hilarious! I should have known that dogs like ice cream. My Aunt Francis used to take her dog through the drive-thru at McD's just to get an ice cream cone!
