I am very thankful for the "cold front" that came in last night. I was able to cut the grass and work in the garden in much cooler temps this morning. It was only 85 degrees! That is much cooler than the 100+ degree weather we have been having. So with a little help from the boys, we were able to get in the garden and pull grass and weeds. Everything is looking great. I am still holding my breath about the garden. We got hit hard last summer with a fungus that zapped the whole thing. So far so good. My neighbor told me that he thought overhead watering may contribute to fungus, so we got a garden soaker hose. It only waters the ground vs. the sprinkler we used last year. The soaker hose is supposed to use less water because you lose less to evaporation thereby having to "water" for a shorter time. I am quite pleased with it's performance. The water only has to be on about 15 minutes to get a good watering. We'll see how the rest of the summer goes. I am on guard about the fungus. If anyone knows anything about it, please tell me.
Here are some pics of our garden. We should have some tomatoes ready soon and perhaps a mess of squash in another week or so!
I don't want anyone to make fun of my little tomato plants. I read that you should keep most of the leaves pruned off. That you are "growing tomatoes not leaves." So they look pretty bare, but the tomatoes are doing great. Supposedly if you keep from having too many leaves, your tomatoes will grow fuller, juicier, and in more abundance. I'll keep you posted about this theory.

That looks so neat! What will you do if you sell your house before your veggies are ripe? You think the new owners will let you come by and take care of your garden?
Thanks for the birthday message to Delaney! She had a really fun day.
Chat with you later,

No matter what, we can't close on the sale of the house before Aug 18 because that is the 2 yr mark. So we should enjoy several weeks of harvest before we were to move. I just didn't want to miss out on having a garden if we weren't able to sell during the summer. Plus, the garden is far enough away from the house that the new owner won't see us out there late at night eating tomato sandwiches! :) kidding!!!!
Haha! Yeah, you guys will have to invest in some ninja clothes. :) We planted some thuja green giant trees along the border of our yard and have been using the soaker hose... it's great! I would love to start a garden too. Maybe next year. Tony's mom lays hay all around her plants, as it is supposed to help hold more moisture. TTYL
Lookin' good! Your tomato plants are loaded! I don't have any yet, and some varment (who I have officially waged war against) continues to steel my strawberries and peppers before I get to them. I have even sprayed the plants with a Cayenne pepper mix. I told Jonathan I was going to put a plastic owl, snake, and scarecrow out there. haha.
