It snowed on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 from about 10:00 to around 4:30. It was just beautiful! The snow was late coming in, according to the weather prediction. We actually thought we would wake up to a couple of inches of snow. So when we woke up and saw that there was no snow, we were pretty disappointed. We thought it was another DUD...another false alarm. Then the snow started falling...EVERYWHERE ELSE! We were watching news reports and the snow was accumulating all around us. According to the radar, we were in a "dead" spot. There really was snow all around us, just not over us! It finally started coming down good around 10:30. What a relief!
SNOW ANGELS

SNOW PUPPY

On Wednesday morning, the kids got all layered and dressed to go back outside. It was a beautiful sunny day, so it was a little easier to be outside. It wasn't snowing or windy and that helped too. The kids started right away working on a snow man. I dedided to sit in the breakfast room and watch with the comfort of warmth and a great cup of coffee. I just love the view I had!

It wasn't long before I couldn't take it any longer! I had to go get myself layered and dressed so I could show these kids how Snowman making was done! We all had a great time!

If you ask us if we had school today, I would say yes. We worked on several key character traits:
- Perseverance. It was cold, and we could've easily given up before our task was complete.
- Teamwork. We all worked together to gather snow and pack it tightly.
- Helpfulness. Benjamin filled his dump truck with snow from other parts of the yard and brought it to us.
- I could go on and on.
It was certainly a learning experience to plan out a project and construct it. What a joy to see it completed! Plus, it's important for me to teach my kids how to do things that they will want to teach their kids one day. And since we only get a good snow every 4-5 years, I had to seize the opportunity: Snowman Making 101. A+ for everyone!
Drew isn't the littlest anymore...for now anyway!

All this mess! So much laundry! Was it really worth it?
I say...YES!!

I totally loved this post! I'm really glad that you guys didn't stay in a dead spot... that would've been weird and sad. Nestle's coat is cute, along with the A+ snowman. I love love love the school day mentality. Haha. I can't wait to have school days just like this when we have children. :)
Oh how wonderful! I am so jealous though, I wish we had snow, something other than flurries at least! I know that the kids had such a great time. I wish we could have been there to watch them play! Love you guys - nicole
Great snowman. It was a priceless learning day about teamwork. Glad the kids got to really play in it. I was sad to see it melt today. I never got out to play. It was so pretty to look at. Jill says it doesn't stay pretty. She said they have had 100+ FEET this year so far.
Excuse me, 100+ inches. Still a lot.
